Mobile Apps Monetization comparison among Google AdMob, Facebook Audience, Twitter MoPub, Apple iAd


MonetizationEarning revenue by monetizing mobile apps is one of the key area in mobile apps development. In freemium apps showing advertisement is quite common, in this post I will share my experience of ad revenue among Google AdMob, Twitter MoPub, Facebook Audience, Apple iAd.

I also used MdotM and MMedia for couple of years, but I no longer use them as their fill rate and revenue is worst in my apps.

I have 60+ iOS apps mostly applications and some pure games, and 25+ Android apps with few games. My iOS apps are in app store since 2010 and Android apps since 2014. I faced many pitfalls and good revenue by showing ads over this lifetime, so I think it would be good to share my experience with my fellow developers who want to integrate mobile ads in their apps. I use Interestial Full Screen Ads as well as Banner ads. For interestial ads I use AdMob Mediation and for banner ads I use MoPub mediation.

So lets share some graphics to know. Here, 95% traffic comes in iOS, and 5% in Android. Also I included cumulative comparison of interestial and banner ads in all countries.

AD eCPM

AD Fill Rate

As I use AdMob solely for interestial ads, so their eCPM is highest among all. The reason I don’t use AdMob banner because their content overlap issue is strict and they often disable apps. Other ad networks also provide interestial ads but mostly banner ads.

For banner ads, MoPub and Facebook Audience eCPM is almost same. In depth analysis, I found for interestial ads comparing all, AdMob eCPM is most of the time remain highest. Though sometime Facebook Audience eCPM become highest for some of my apps.

So my recommendation for Banner Ads:

  1. Twitter MoPub
  2. Facebook Audience
  3. Google AdMob
  4.  Apple iAd

One additional topic I want to discuss for cross promoting own apps between AdMob House Ads and MoPub Backfill ads.

I found MoPub Backfill ads is much better than AdMob house ads. The reason is, MoPub backfill ads fill rate is 100% where as I found AdMob house ads fill rate is below 40% according to their dashboards.

    Hello Mahmud

    Nice article. I believe it could be also helpful if you add on the article more info regarding the demographics of your apps, like geos since those affect heavily fill rate and eCPMs for each network. This way the comparison would provide more insights on the different networks.
