Do Manual Optimization in AdMob to Earn Better

Google AdMob dashboard gives us opportunity to optimize ads performance, which many people overlook. If you check it regularly, you may get chance to optimize a bit for a while to earn better. Today I will discuss about that.

Basically I prefer, to serve all ads including direct client ads, house ads via AdMob mediation. Google AdMob is the best ads mediation service I have ever used. I also used MoPub that’s interface is complex to understand, difficult to use and have very few optimization options.

So why you should check regular income in different ads platform?

Well, here I am describing my recent real life experience. Currently I am using only Facebook Audience and Google AdMob ads in my mobile applications. A few weeks ago, suddenly I saw a peek of revenue coming from Facebook Audience. You see, the eCPM for interestial is very high for United Arab Emirates and South Africa, whereas the better revenue generating in UAE. This is not usual.

FB Aud

Facebook Audience

So what I did, I modified the eCPM in Google AdMob dashboard for my app and gave highest priority for UAE and South Africa for Facebook Audience. I also modified the manual eCPM for some other countries previously as their rate is better than normal rate.

AdMob

Google AdMob

So for few days, I got some extra revenue than usual coming from Facebook Audience. That’s good, is not it. If I didn’t check regularly I missed those extra money. Google AdMob also has auto ads optimization settings for some networks, but unfortunately Facebook Audience yet not supported.

So keep your eye on and check regularly how the ads performance is going for different network and in different countries.

    Hi thinkdiff,
Thank you for sharing this article. I using admob and my audience are 78% in US and 12% in UK. But I got very low cost per click, a round 0.07$ for Interstitial on iOS app. I plan to set the eCPM floor for my ad unit, but I don’t know which the average cost of eCPM to set. Please give me some advice.
    Thank in advanced.

It’s very weird. 0.07 eCPM should not happen for US and UK users for interestial ads. How was your CTR ? Normally interestial ads have higher CTR.

My CRT is 3%, I alway got ~100 clicks/ ~3000 impression. In past, I got >= 1.4 $ CPC for US, but from begin July to now, my cost per click drop to very low :(.

In this situation I suggest you to use Facebook Audience along with admob. Its very easy to use both together, just check the mediation. After you added facebook Audience, then you can compare which platform giving you best CPM.

Hi, I just set my eCPM floor of Admob to 10$ for US, UK and UAE. Then add FAN to source with settings: 20$ for US, UK and 100$ for UAE. Is it ok?.

What I suggest, use 2 or 3 networks to check which network gives you more money. Not all apps earn same revenue. If you set eCPM Floor, check few days, if you are not happy then again change and optimize. As it differs app to app so I couldn’t say which eCPM floor is best for your app.

    Hi Mahmud,
After a month try to use mediation networks with no luck, I was discover the reason why my Interstitial ads get low cost per click. I checked in Bid Types section and I saw from May up to now, my account get > 70% CPM bid type in earning that made cost per click is too low :(. In past, I got > 70% CPC bid type in earning.

Revenue is dropped for last couple of months in my case also. I don’t know why but the eCPM is lower in all major ads networks.

Hey Mahmud, this is a nice find.

Could you please let me know what you set the eCPM value for those countries? If the actual return from them was around 150$ what did you set the eCPM to? And how did you prioritise it over Admob, did you set a high floor for Admob? Did you add a different mediation group for each country or region?(I am talking about the new Beta Admob) Maybe you can write a few more sentences and maybe use some screenshots as I am not quite sure how the prioritisation works on Admob.
Am I correct to assume that If I set a high eCPM for FAN, for instance 10$ and this value is never met I will get waterfalled down to Admob if Admob is set to optimize or auto?
Or if I set an Admob floor which is higher than 10$ and both are not meant then I am losing ad revenue?

What happens if I set a high Facebook eCPM value that is never met, but Admob is set to optimize, am I guaranteed a fill if Admob has ads?

If you use multiple ad network, in current admob mediation you can create different mediation group with some selected countries and set high eCPM. Normally I didn’t set each country rather a few country where normally the eCPM is higher than others like US, UK, Canada, Germany etc. Please check the latest document/tutorial of admob mediation group priority as its a new update than old system.
Yes admob is filled is your high eCPM is not satisfied by other netowork.
Yeah you’re guaranteed to fill be admob if FB eCPM value never met.

Thank you for the reply, but that does not really answer the question.
“So what I did, I modified the eCPM in Google AdMob dashboard for my app and gave highest priority for UAE and South Africa for Facebook Audience”

Could you please tell me what value you set the eCPM to both countries. Is it right to assume that you set it close to the actual value in your example of 150 and 140$, so you set your eCPM for both countries to let’s say 100$ eCPM and moved them up in the priority list? Is this correct?

The higher eCPM works for only few days, and after some days it become normal. So after few days, I make it norma like 5 USD
